I’ve been weight and strength training for about a year now! I went for an 8 mile bike ride this week in about the best streak of weather we’ve had yet this spring.
My endurance and stamina is growing. I’ve even tried a little running, although much prefer walking or hiking. But it’s good to know I CAN run if I need to.
Weight training is going well and I am using the big dog barbell for squats, bench press, and dead lifting.
In a year of greatly increasing my exercise, and eating pretty damn well (because if I don’t I get sick with Crohn’s of course) I have lost basically no weight and have not gone down any sizes in my clothes! Which is fine because that isn’t my goal!
However I think it’s important to point out that fueling for exercise and nearly hitting the suggested amount (150 mins aerobic, lifting 2-3 times a week) doesn’t result in weight loss! Hey there’s even research that supports it.
The important thing is that I feel strong, I am more comfortable in my body, I have much better fitness and stamina, and I am enjoying movement. I’m exploring my hobbies. Also non fitness hobbies! So yeah my mental health is better too. Hell yeah.
I’m looking forward to summer break in another month and hopefully structuring my week better so I can fuel and get out and enjoy the sunshine.
